Kenya and India to collaborate on Wildlife Conservation and Management – 28/10/2024

The Ministry of Tourism and Wildlife is glad to have hosted a delegation from the Government of India led by  Director General of Forests & Special Secretary Mr. Jitenra Kumar.
During their meeting with the Cabinet Secretary, Ministry of Tourism and Wildlife Hon. Rebecca Miano EGH, the CS noted that Kenya and India share common objectives on wildlife conservation and management. Further, the two countries are parties to critical wildlife related Multilateral Environmental Agreements i.e., CITES, CBD and CMS among others which are crucial in fostering our partnership in the field of wildlife conservation and management. 
The countries are seeking collaboration in: capacity building in wildlife management; wildlife security; information exchange in Human Wildlife Coexistence (HWC) management; wildlife data and information management; sustainable management and conservation of species; technology and innovation transfer among others.
The delegation had a chance to visit Nairobi National Park and Maasai Mara National Reserve to experience Kenya’s Safari and enjoy the Big 5 wildlife species among others. 
Kenya and India are proponents of the International Big Cats Alliance (IBCA) which aims to collectively address common challenges to the protection and conservation of the seven (7) major Big Cats in the world i.e., Tiger, Lion, Leopard, Snow Leopard, Puma, Jaguar and Cheetah to secure socio-ecological future and support adaptation and mitigation of adverse effects of climate change.
The Director General Mr. Jitenra Kumar, was accompanied by Dr. Gobind Sagar Bhardwaj, Additional Director General (Project Tiger) & Member Secretary National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA); Mr. Ramesh Kumar Pandey, Inspector General of Forest, NTCA; Dr. Abhishek Kumar,  Assistant Inspector General NTCA; and High Commission of India in Nairobi officials.
