Meeting To Discuss The Status of Wildlife Sector Partnership And Coordination Framework – 23/08/2024

Cabinet Secretary (CS) Ministry of Tourism and Wildlife, Hon Rebecca Miano, E.G.H. has this morning graced a meeting to discuss the status of Wildlife Sector Partnership And Coordination Framework. In attendance was The Principal Secretary (PS) ,State Department for Wildlife, Hon Silvia Museiya, CBS ,Members of Parliament from the Parliamentary Committee on Tourism and Wildlife, Board Chair Wildlife Research Training Institute(WRTI) ,CEO WRTI, Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) representatives and development partners.

The Cabinet Secretary for Tourism and Wildlife Ms Rebecca Miano in her speech said the government is open to engage in inclusive consultative process among actors involved in the protection and conservation of wildlife and the ecosystem that will accord them opportunity to provide their inputs.

Ms Miano said the government believes in engagements driven by openness and mutual goodwill that allow for transparency in the implementation and the sharing of information that promote the protection and conservation of biodiversity.

She said the public sector has plans and policies in place that actors need to recognize and allow the government to exercise its stewardship and leadership role adding that the alignment require that collaborating partners anchor their support on the country’s strategies and systems.

“The partnerships calls for harmony in the coordination of donor support and it ought to be mindful of the need to minimize the cost of delivering aid”, said the Cabinet Secretary.

Noting that the goal of partnership is to deliver desired results that meet the donors’ expectations and the objectives of the recipient country, the CS said, it is important for donors and partners to have mutual accountability to facilitate the fulfilment of set commitments.

She called for actors in the conservation to avoid competition and support each other saying it was important to have division of labour where comparative advantage of actors thrive.

The actors in conservation applauded the efforts by the PS Silvia Museiya in ensuring that a well coordinated framework is set into place,

The PS suggested on having Quarterly meetings with development partners and called upon Mr Giovanni of UNODC to reach out to more partners for better coordination and to achieve the conservation goal.
