The Principal Secretary for the State Department of Tourism, Hon. Safina Kwekwe Tsungu, has said that cultural tourism is a segment that the Ministry is trying to elevate and making sure that it brings more visitors.
“For the longest time, the Kenyan Coast has been known for its beaches and wildlife. We now want to diversify on that through product invention and reinvention. We have many cultural sites here at the Coast that can be marketed so that tourists can come and get immersed in our cultures,” said PS Kwekwe.
The PS also added that with the Dongo Kundu bypass almost being completed, we can now promote the area as one circuit. Tourists will be able to visit the Tsavo area, the cultural sites, and get back to relax on the beaches.
The PS said all these at a tree planting event at Kaya Kinondo, Kwale County, where the State Department for Tourism is planning to plant at least 1,000 seedlings.
