PS Wildlife, Ms Silvia Museiya on Wednesday 25 th January inspected the newly built water pans, which are intended to mitigate the effects of drought on wildlife in the Tsavo Conservation area. She did this while on a familiarization field trip to Tsavo East and West National Parks. During the trip, the PS visited Kamboyo Guest House in Tsavo West National Park which offers
affordable accommodation facilities for up to eight people, and also went on a tour of the orphaned elephant rehabilitation center in Tsavo East National Park, which aims to reintroduce the elephants to the wild when they are old enough.
Ms Silvia, who was accompanied by Ag Director General Kenya Wildlife Service, Dr Erastus Kanga, planted trees at Aruba Dam in Tsavo East National Park as part of the Presidential Climate Change Mitigation Initiative and assessed the progress of the ongoing restoration works on the degraded areas within the area.
The Tsavo Conservation area covers 21,000 KM square which equals to 4% of Kenya's land mass and covers Tsavo East,Tsavo West and Chyulu National Parks plus all the conservancies under Taita Taveta Wildlife Conservancies Association.
The PS met the senior management of the parks who took her through the status of things and the challenges they were going through. She assured them of her support in improving “this land of lava, springs, man-eaters & magical sunset that plays a crucial role in balancing the ecosystem that provides a sustainable habitat for Wildlife”.
