The Cabinet Secretary for Tourism and Wildlife Ms Rebecca Miano has said the government is open to engage in inclusive consultative process among actors involved in the protection and conservation of wildlife and the ecosystem that will accord them opportunity to provide their inputs.
Ms Miano said the government believes in engagements driven by openness and mutual goodwill that allow for transparency in the implementation and the sharing of information that promote the protection and conservation of biodiversity.
Speaking at a Nairobi hotel during a meeting to discuss the status of the wildlife sector partnerships and coordination framework today, Ms Miano said the government believes in collaborative planning and consultations that allows synergy of ideas to improve the management of wildlife and the biodiversity.
The cabinet secretary who was accompanied by Wildlife Principal Secretary Ms Silvia Museiya said effective partnerships inspired by global best practice yields desirable results that are measurable.
She said the public sector has plans and policies in place that actors need to recognise and allow the government to exercise its stewardship and leadership role adding that the alignment require that collaborating partners anchor their support on the country’s strategies and systems.
“The partnerships calls for harmony in the coordination of donor support and it ought to be mindful of the need to minimise the cost of delivering aid”, said the Cabinet Secretary.
Noting that the goal of partnership is to deliver desired results that meet the donors’ expectations and the objectives of the recipient country, the CS said, it was important for donors and partners to have mutual accountability to facilitate the fulfilment of set commitments.
She called for actors in the conservation to avoid competition and support each other saying it was important to have division of labour where comparative advantage of actors thrive.
