On the ongoing Utalii Fresh tours, the Cabinet Secretary (CS) for Tourism and Wildlife, Dr. Alfred Mutua, has today visited Kiambu County, and underscored the untapped potential of Kiambu County, envisioning it as an ideal destination for short getaways.
Amidst picturesque landscapes and diverse attractions, ranging from adventure and agro-tourism to cultural and medical tourism, the CS highlighted Kiambu County’s capacity to emerge as a comprehensive tourism hub.
“Kiambu County boasts a wealth of natural wonders, including Mathore View Point, Kijabe Springs, Fourteen Falls, the Turi A Mumbi Culture and Heritage Center, among others. With the right enhancements, these sites could capture both domestic and international interest,” said Mutua.
Echoing this sentiment, Kiambu Governor, H.E Dr. Paul Wamatangi, identified Fourteen Falls as a standout site with significant potential, albeit currently marred by pollution issues stemming from nearby industries.
In response, CS Mutua pledged to collaborate with the Environment, Climate Change, and Forestry Ministry to address pollution concerns and restore the falls’ splendor. Additionally, he committed funds towards revitalizing Mathore View Point, situated along the Nairobi-Nakuru highway, promising improved amenities for visitors.
Furthermore, Mutua emphasized the need to rehabilitate and promote Kiambu County’s historical sites, including Turi A Mumbi and the Buxton Tunnel, in collaboration with the heritage and culture docket.
Highlighting the county’s medical prowess, Mutua encouraged partnerships between the public and private sectors to facilitate seamless medical tourism experiences, leveraging Kiambu’s abundance of specialized healthcare professionals.
“I see this an opportunity ready for the taking. I urge the County to collaborate with the private sector to develop a comprehensive package, ensuring patients and their families are catered to seamlessly from airport pickup to recovery completion. Once established, my Ministry will lead the efforts to promote Kiambu as a premier medical tourism destination,” added Mutua.
In the realm of agro-tourism, Kiambu County offers an immersive experience in its agricultural heritage, with opportunities for visitors to explore tea and coffee estates, participate in hands-on activities, and learn about sustainable farming practices amidst the serene countryside.
